Keith, Iraq and no change of heart on my part...
My good friend Keith has been home from Iraq for about 2 weeks now. My constant readers know that I have no love at all for the bushters or anything they've instituted in the past 5 years (Afghanistan being the only exception). I saw no reason prior to us going to Iraq for the action. I had no problem with Afghanistan because of the involvement of the taliban training camps.
The only terrorists in Iraq prior to us getting there was Saddam and his henchmen. A regime that we helped along in the 80's. The only reason I'm not crying "Get the hell out of there as quickly as possible" is the fact that we couldn't stand that as a nation after how Vietnam ended. There was no 'peace with honor' then, there's none now.
So where does this leave us? We're losing more and more young lives daily. Not just the ones that are dying either. The wounded will be haunted forever. After the gung ho attitude has gone away, these young folks will be scarred forever.
I'm very happy my friend and the ones in his company made it home. I pray that everyone is that fortunate. I know some will not be. For those families, will the ultimate sacrifice be made easier when they realize what little will be gained for their loss?
